36 Runners took almost half a million steps in the Wilmslow Running Festival to run hygiene poverty into the ground
13 tackled the half marathon and 23 knocked off the 10k raising an awesome amount of money. The sponsorship will help to keep this vital toiletry charity “running” for another 4 months.
With an early roll call for a photo and warm up the runners gathered together. Some game volunteers had agreed to wear “toothbrush or toothpaste fancy dress”, and all runners proudly sported their Bare Necessities T-Shirt.
Trustee Ben Lambert, gamely dressed up as a toothbrush to run the half marathon, said “ We’re a fantastic charity and I’m happy to have had two hours of pain, all in a great cause. It wasn’t easy with a toothbrush on your head but totally worth it.”
Wilmslow’s Way Better, Lisa Russet commented, “ I had a great time running in the Wilmslow Running festival. Not only was the event really well organised so was the Bare Necessities Race Team. The passion in everything they do really shows from the race shirts, pre-race meet and after race event at Suburban Green. I’m thrilled to have passed my sponsorship goal as I know it will make a difference for such a worthy cause.”
Thank you Redrow Homes North West for backing us and to Suburban Green for our post run reception.
All money raised will allow the Wilmslow based charity to buy toiletries to add to those donated. A selection of toiletry and hygiene products are packed into age and gender specific bags and delivered monthly to 35 charities in the Cheshire East and Manchester area. Charities include women’s, youth & schools, mother & baby, foodbanks and street homeless.
